Surf camp South Africa

Surf camp South Africa is located in the surf resort town of Jeffreys Bay in South Africa's Eastern Cape region.

The town used to be a quiet fishing village until its sandy warm beaches and perfect surfing bays were discovered. Today it is touted as the surfing Mecca of South Africa and is home to the one and only ASP-stop on the world surf championship tour on the African continent.

The area receives consistent swells from the Indian Ocean and provides great surfing all year round for both beginners and more experienced surfers. The waves just go on and on in perfect right-hand point-breaks, which are said to be some of the world's best.

South Africa is not only famous for its amazing surfing. It is also the land where you can meet lions and elephants in their own backyard. We wouldn't want any of our guests visiting this amazing country to miss out on these stunning experiences. Therefore, one guided visit to a safari game drive is included for all guests.

Jeffreys Bay is situated just 35 km west of the gateway city of Port Elizabeth, where airport pick up is included for all guests. With its unique combination of beautiful beaches, endless summers and relaxed lifestyle, Jeffreys Bay has a true surf atmosphere. After a great day of surfing you can hang out at many of the local surf bars or stroll on the beach and comb for rare and beautiful shells.

Temperatures are moderate all year round along the coast with rain scattered throughout the year. The summers (October to March) are warm with a very temperate humidity level. Winters are mild and pleasant with good surf year round.

Surf school

Learn how to surf

The surf school has some of the best surf instructors in South Africa. Head coach Etienne Venter has been the selector of the national South African springbok surf team for many years.

In general, beginner lessons are run at Main Beach, a very safe, gentle beach break and intermediate lessons take place at Kitchen Windows, a gentle reef break with easy lefts and rights. But the surf school is also completely mobile, meaning that you at least once per week (depending on weather conditions) will visit other breaks

Depending on your level of surfing, the surf instructors will guide you and help you to improve your surfing skills. We guarantee that after one week of surf school the complete beginner will be able to surf and the experienced surfer will have improved greatly.

The following is included for students attending the surf school:

  • Pick up / drop off at Port Elizabeth airport
  • Accommodation - standard or upgraded
  • 2h surf school on every day of your stay
  • All surf equipment needed
  • Breakfast everyday of your stay
  • One guided visit to a safari game park
  • A visit to a local Jeffreys Bay board shaper
  • Internet access

If you have arranged your own accommodation, you can also book surf school only. This includes 2 hours of surf lessons, all equipment needed and pick up from your hotel in the J-bay area.
